If you still think weight control is just about "eating less and exercising more" take a look at this really cool Obesity System Influence Map. It shows the hundreds of different factors influencing your weight. Amazing to look at, isn't it? Follow any line and that may be one of the problems making it hard for you to control your weight. Now follow another and another. How many of these forces help you gain weight when you don't want to? I'm guessing a lot.

How we tend to think about our weight problems is too simple. We often think we are over weight because we are weak, or lazy, or unworthy. But that's almost never true as this map shows. Weight control is a complex beastie. Our body wants to survive and our environment is filled with the survival stuff it craves: fats, sweets, and no need to move. A successful weight control plan need a way of combating all the factors you see in the map. And I think if you read The Designer Way and The 10 Designer Principles for Controlling Your Weight you'll find some tools to help you control all these influences that make weight control so hard.
